CONTEXT
Mimicry Protocol is a DeFi derivatives protocol for NFT collections. The web app allows people to bet on the future price of different markets, like NFT collections, with virtually unlimited liquidity and no slippage.

The absence of products for shorting NFT collections and limited tools for understanding market dynamics makes it difficult to hedge positions or predict market cap fluctuations. Mimicry aims to address these issues by creating the easiest way to long and short NFT collections.

I began by conducting thorough user interviews, gaining valuable insights into users' needs, pain points, and aspirations. These interviews served as the foundation for my design process, allowing me to empathize with users and identify opportunities for improvement. All participants had a history of investing in crypto and/or NFTs.

Everyone discusses potential NFT purchases with friends
Most prefer to buy multiple NFTs from a collection

Working closely with the founding team and stakeholders, I aligned on project goals, objectives, and design requirements. Their input, combined with my understanding of user needs, informed the creation of design sketches that met both user expectations and the overall project vision.

We valued usability testing and found community members through Discord, Telegram, and conferences to participate in usability testing. The testing results helped me to update designs/features accordingly.
As a result of usability testing, we learned that there was desire for more detailed trading charts as well as advanced features like leverage.

People want to easily bridge tokens when opening positions
People want detailed trading charts

Mimicry is an innovative product aimed mostly at a "degen" audience. That’s why the UI is more playful than we typically see for financial products. We wanted to stand out from other DeFi products. For example, a pink and orange theme, emojis, and even the font is not the most classic: for this project, we used Swear Banner for display text.
